SEO London – Search Engine Optimisation

What is it?

SEO is a targeted internet marketing strategy that incorporates the use of search engines.

SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, refers to the process of increasing a website’s visibility through the unpaid resource of the search engine.

Using Google as a chief example, the higher a website is on a list of search terms, the more likely a user is to click on the page. Google will list all the website that have links to the term being searched for but stereotypically, people won’t go past the first page to click onto a site.

The trick therefore is to get search terms that are commonly associated with your website to bring your website up first, or at least on the first page.

This is known as an organic form of digital marketing as high ranks are achieved through unpaid work. Google rewards information and correct SEO-ing with high places.

Despite the presence of paid ads surfacing at the very top of most keyword searches, reports have shown users are more likely to skip (or even choose to opt out of) the paid-for ads in favour of the organic search terms below, hence the need for SEO.

Success of S.E.O.

First established around 1997, SEO has become a more intricate process due to previous search engine abuse and ranking manipulation.

Previous programs were designed to infiltrate the SEO systems, creating false data. Factors such as keyword density and attributes within the HTML script has also suffered abuse as webmaster’s were able to trick Google into false rankings.

Since this time Google has successfully changed its algorithm for ranking success meaning that information and correct links to more information are the tools required for high rankings.

This is good news for websites as well as it means relevant information is available surrounding the keyword entered rather than keyword stuffed websites that have procured false rankings.
